An organizer you don't use is wasted money. A pull-out for things you rarely use, or one sized for items you do not own, can hold less than a plain shelf.

Before you add an organizer, name what it will hold and how often you will reach for it.

How to Choose Your Accessories

  1. List what you can't reach or can't find in your cabinets today.
  2. Choose an accessory for each corner cabinet first, because a corner wastes the most space.
  3. Put your garbage and recycling in a pull-out beside the sink, where you scrape plates.
  4. Bring your shortlist to your home visit, because your cabinet maker sizes each cabinet to fit its accessory.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do soft-close hinges and drawers cost extra?

No. Every cabinet price includes soft-close hinges and drawer slides. They stop doors and drawers slamming, which protects your cabinets.

What is the best accessory for a corner cabinet?

A Lazy Susan suits an L-shaped corner. A blind-corner pull-out suits a corner hidden behind the next cabinet. Corner drawers hold pots and lids in either one.

How big should my garbage pull-out be?

An 18 in. cabinet holds two full-size bins. For all three of Toronto's streams, garbage, Blue Bin recycling and Green Bin organics, choose a wider cabinet or keep organics in a small bin in the drawer above. Your cabinet maker sizes the cabinet to the bins you choose.

Should I use knobs or pulls on my cabinets?

Either works, and many kitchens use knobs on cabinet doors and pulls on drawers. Wider drawers look best with longer pulls. Use one size across cabinets of the same width.

Can I add pull-outs to my existing cabinets?

No. Your cabinet maker fits accessories only into cabinets it builds. If you're replacing a few cabinets anyway, your new ones can include them.

Do accessories raise my cabinet price?

Upgrades do. Each organizer, pull-out, light and specialty fitting adds parts and labour. Hinges, drawer slides and handles come with every cabinet. Your final quote lists each upgrade you choose.
