Your cabinet maker checks the room measurements, appliance clearances and installation details before building. A 5-year written warranty covers the cabinets and their installation. The final payment is due after the installation walkthrough, according to your quote.
What Happens During Cabinet Installation?
- You and your cabinet maker confirm the room is ready. Flooring, walls, plumbing and electrical work are done or scheduled before your cabinets arrive.
- Your cabinet maker sets each cabinet level and in line, adjusting for uneven walls and floors.
- Your cabinet maker fastens the cabinets to your walls and floor.
- Your cabinet maker installs your countertop on a separate day, when your quote includes one. Your cabinet maker measures a stone or quartz top on your fastened cabinets, then cuts it to fit.
- Your cabinet maker adjusts the doors, drawers, panels and trim so each one opens smoothly and lines up.
- You walk through the finished work with your cabinet maker. Your cabinet maker fixes anything you list that doesn't match your approved design before you make your last payment.

What Gets Confirmed Before Your Cabinets Are Built?
Your cabinet maker starts building only after you approve your design and order. Your approved design is what your cabinet maker builds and installs, so check each of these against your room before you approve:
- Dimensions. The measurements your cabinet maker takes at your home visit, for each wall, window, opening and ceiling.
- Materials. The material of your cabinet boxes, doors and drawer fronts. Compare cabinet materials.
- Finishes. Your door style, colour, hardware and countertop.
- Appliances. The model of each fridge, range, dishwasher and microwave, so each opening fits it.
- Drawings. When your cabinet maker provides drawings, where each cabinet, drawer and filler goes on every wall.
- Lead time. About 6 to 8 weeks.
- Additional work. Removing your old cabinets and installing your countertop are on your quote when you select them. Plumbing, electrical, wall and floor work stay with the licensed trades you choose.
How Long Does Building Your Cabinets Take?
Your cabinet maker builds your cabinets in about 6 to 8 weeks. The time starts the day you pay your deposit, and ends when your cabinets are ready to install.
Your cabinet maker then confirms your installation date with you. Time spent choosing materials and approving your design comes before the 6 to 8 weeks.
These can move your date:
- A change after you order. A cabinet that changes is rebuilt, which can add weeks. See what a change costs.
- A special-order item. A specialty finish, glass door, hardware or accessory from a supplier can arrive late. Ask your cabinet maker which items in your design are special-order before you order.
- A room that isn't ready. Your installation date waits until flooring, walls, plumbing and electrical work are done.
- A busy season. Spring and the weeks before the holidays book up first. Need cabinets by a set date? Count back 6 to 8 weeks from that date, plus design time, and order by then.
What Happens If Something Needs Fixing?
Your cabinet maker fixes a misaligned door, a finish defect or anything that doesn't match your approved design, at no cost to you. Your last payment waits until it is fixed.
- Your cabinet maker checks the work during installation. Each cabinet is checked for level, and each door and drawer for even gaps and smooth movement.
- You and your cabinet maker inspect the finished work together. At the final walkthrough, you compare each cabinet, door, drawer, panel, finish and countertop with your approved design, in good light. You list anything out of line, chipped, scratched or a different colour.
- Your cabinet maker corrects everything you list. A door or drawer out of line is usually a hinge or slide adjustment made that day. A chipped, scratched or wrong part is remade or replaced, and your cabinet maker books a return visit to install it.
- You make your last payment after everything on your list is fixed.
- After installation, you request warranty service from your cabinet maker. For 5 years, your cabinet maker fixes any defect in the cabinets it built or in their installation. Contact your cabinet maker as your written warranty states, with photos of the problem. Your cabinet maker inspects it, then repairs or replaces what the warranty covers.
You receive your written warranty with your final quote, so you can read its coverage, its exclusions and how to request service before you order.
The plumber, electrician or contractor you chose fixes problems with their own plumbing, electrical, wall or floor work.
Why Your Cabinet Maker Installs Your Cabinets

The company that confirms the measurements is also responsible for installing the cabinets to the agreed design, with doors, drawers and hardware working as designed. You do not have to settle a disagreement between a separate cabinet supplier and installer.
A question about fit goes straight to the team that built your cabinets.
"The staff finished all of those in 3 days while there were other trades in the house." (Beverly, Google review, October 2025, on a kitchen, 3 vanities and 2 closets)

What Could Change the Price After Your Home Visit?
Your final quote sets your price, with installation included, and your cabinet maker fixes its own measuring or building mistakes at no cost to you. A design change after you approve is priced in a written change order you sign before the work starts, and the licensed trades you choose charge you directly for wall, plumbing or electrical work.

Preparing for Your Cabinet Installation
Before installation, confirm:
- Whether old cabinets need to be removed
- Whether walls and floors are ready
- Whether plumbing or electrical work is complete or coordinated
- Whether delivery access and working space are available

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does cabinet installation take?
About 1 to 4 days, depending on the room. Installation takes about 1 day for a vanity or reach-in closet, 1 to 2 days for a walk-in closet and 2 to 4 days for a kitchen, depending on its size. Building takes about 6 to 8 weeks before that, from the day you pay your deposit. Your countertop typically goes in on a separate day, after your cabinets are fastened and measured for it. Your cabinet maker confirms the schedule before installation. See what can move your date.
What if a cabinet door is crooked after installation?
Your cabinet maker adjusts it. List it at your final walkthrough, and your cabinet maker fixes it before your last payment. After that, request service under your 5-year written warranty. See how fixes work.
Can new cabinets be installed on uneven walls?
Yes. Your cabinet maker shims and scribes cabinets to fit uneven walls and floors, which is normal in older Toronto homes. A wall or floor with significant problems needs repair by a licensed contractor you choose before installation.
Who installs the cabinets in my home?
Your cabinet maker's own installers, the same company that builds your cabinets, so nobody can blame a separate installer. If a worker is hurt in your home, its WSIB coverage pays their claim, not you.
Can you install cabinets I bought somewhere else?
No. Cabinet Pros takes custom cabinet projects only. Your cabinet maker installs the cabinets it designs and builds for your home.
Do I need to arrange plumbing and electrical work separately?
Yes. Plumbing and electrical work are separate licensed trades, and you choose your own plumber and electrician. Your cabinet maker plans your installation date around their work.
